Belt Drive
I have been slacking a lot lately with posting stuff besides random rides. My bad. I still dont have anything groundbreaking so here is a moderately interesting video to hold you over. I am a big fan of belt drive and have been running one of Treks belt-bikes with zero fuss. I'm definitely interested in trying a SS29'er one day. The belt system combined with an internal eight speed hub and fenders has been a lot of fun.

Lucky Cat Recap
Thanks to everyone who came, supported, volunteered, and participated in the Lucky Cat. Everyone combined to make it a big success. This years course came in between 18-25 miles depending on your route and had a few familiar challenges in addition to some new twists. We had people from Bham, Florence, Greensboro, and as far away as Ohio. NIce! I met a lot of really great new people and plan on paying it forward in the near future. Opinions varied on this years event but overall I think people felt it was better than last years race. We upped the mileage and threw in more twists. Handling skills payed a fair role this year as well as speed and a bit of luck (davis). The overall winner was a great great guy Josh Driskell from Florence who, this is embarrassing to say, won by almost 8-minutes. Thanks to Chrome Messenger bags, Olde Towne Brewery, UrbanVelo, Mellow Mushroom PIzza, Art & Soul Tattoo, Chris's mom, and Bicycles Etc for the support. Thanks to Tyler, Leela, Janet, Jim, and everyone who helped with pics. Here's a few of them:

Third place local mens finisher Davis

Riders trying to stay ahead of the rain

Not your typical alleycat trophy but oh so much better. Thanks to Chris's mom for hand making this incredible quilt for the first overall winner. It turned out so perfect and josh has already said it will be an heirloom.

The H.A.F.R. (humid as fu*# ride)
So I didn't make a flier or post anything about riding tonight because, well, i thought it was going to piss rain like last night. I checked the radar at lunch and it should have but somehow, it was clear as could be. Well, except for the 200% humidity of course. Luckily everyone else knew more than me and showed up and waited for me to go grab my bike. Thanks. So I promised that after the alleycat, we were going to get back to some more challenging rides instead of the flat-and-fast Bandito rides. After all was said and done, most of us finished the night with around 25 hilly-ass muggy miles. Tonight was also Eric's last night since he is moving out west in about nine hours. Hopefully minus a print or two. Also new, we hit up Big Eds for food and beer. Three-dollar semi-dank-beer mini pitchers! All in all a fun night for sure.

I'm already getting a little choked up but here is Eric's last Rocket City Handshake before he goes. If only I had the new iphone, i would have had a flash to better capture the moment, ha. Of course he's so freaking tall I could only capture about a third of his arm.

Hey, Is There Anything To Do Today?

Actually, i heard about this cool bike thing going on Saturday afternoon! It starts at 6pm (race starts at 7), bring your bike (air up those tires), a camera or phone w camera, ten bones, and a helmet and lights of some kind are suggested - you are riding at night after all. There's a lot of fun challenges this year, beer, Mellow Mushroom is feeding you, and Cancerslug playing on the loading dock.

Thursday And Saturday
I'd like to say a special thanks to all the people helping us get the word out about the alleycat this saturday. In particuar, thanks to Urban Velo for their contributions and publicity. You guys are the shit. As far as riding tomorrow, yeh we're definitely meeting up same time, same place, 7pm behind the shop. If its raining, i'm gonna have to bail; still have some loose ends to tie up. NOt trying to be redundant but don't forget About This
